portable restroom trailers offer relief after natural disaster [...]

Already in 2012, we have seen a handful of earthquakes and an outbreak of deadly tornados. And hurricane season hasn’t even begun yet. It’s time to prepare for the relief that people will need as we head into the “super storm” time of year.

Natural disasters not only bring physical damage, but also emotional devastation to those who experience it. After the destruction of a natural disaster is when most people are vulnerable; wondering where do I go, what do I do, how do I begin to put my life back together? There are many organizations that aid in disaster relief, all offering something different. Some bring food and water, some offer laundry cleaning; others help rebuild homes and businesses, while others provide portable restrooms and showers. When your loved ones are all you have left, a good meal and a warm shower go a long way.

Portable restroom and shower trailers are a necessity to those who have lost their own amenities. There are trailers that have restrooms only, showers only, or combos that include both restrooms and showers. All of them include sinks. They are private, climate controlled, clean, sanitary, and offer just a little bit of comfort and peace of mind after a turbulent storm.

We are thankful to all of the supporting organizations that when a disaster happens, are there to help and encourage our fellow human beings.

benefits of portable restroom trailers for construction sites [...]

The other day I drove through a neighborhood that is still building homes. I noticed a little porta potty by the road. One of the construction guys happened to be going in while another was on his way there. On the way out, which was on the other side of the circular development, I noticed another porta potty by the road. My first thought was “why don’t they just put the porta potties in one central location?” Then I began to think about the benefits that a portable restroom trailer would offer.

Take the example of the scenario that I observed; one person was in the porta potty while another waited. That’s valuable time wasted. One small restroom trailer in a convenient central location with access to multiple stalls would allow more than one person to use the restroom, saving time and therefore saving money.

Additionally, providing clean and sanitary restroom conditions will take away the risk of illness spreading to and from the workers. With a portable restroom trailer, the workers would be able to wash their hands with soap and running water. This will keep everyone healthy, strong, and able to work, which in turn, will increase productivity.

Lastly, a portable bathroom trailer will be more appealing to those driving through the neighborhood looking at homes to buy. In fact, they may not even realize what it is. If I were a potential buyer, I would think “If the builders cared this much to provide a good environment for their employees, they must have put that much more pride and quality into building these homes.” The little amount of effort it takes for a small detail as that could translate to big results for you.

It’s that time of year again! Graduates of all kinds all over the country will be celebrating their success. It’s a turning point in their lives…the end of a season and the beginning of a new journey. I can’t think of a better reason to celebrate!

Whether planning for a graduation party or the actual graduation ceremony, keeping the graduate and guests happy is of utmost importance. Regardless of if you have one hundred people or one thousand people to think of, bathroom needs is an important detail to plan for.

Portable bathrooms are great for this type of occasion. The site of the graduation ceremony will surely need restrooms that can accommodate large crowds to get people in and out quickly and efficiently. Additionally, handicap accessible accommodations for those family members who need it are essential. The party site can also use portable bathrooms to make sure the guests are treated like royalty. They will be sure to have a safe, reliable, and clean experience whether they just want to wash hands or “take care of business”. Either way, portable restroom rentals provide a sensible, effortless, economical solution to a common problem with these kinds of events. That alone is reason to celebrate! Besides, should you decide to have a big graduation party in your backyard, do you really want all those guests going in and out of your home, traipsing dirt throughout?

wash hands in restrooms or portable bathrooms to eliminate germs [...]

Myth: Toilet seats are the “germ mecca” of the bathroom.

Fact: Places where your hands frequently touch are where the most germs are.

While most of us blame public and portable bathroom toilet seats for harboring all of the germs, it is actually places like door handles, flushers, soap dispensers, and sink handles where the germs are gathered. So, no more is the infamous toilet seat at fault for the nasty little organisms we pick up in the bathroom.

The first line of defense would be consistent cleaning and sanitizing of the restroom, whether it is indoors or an outdoor porta potty rental. Since we can’t always control when or how they are cleaned, however, the second line of defense is on us…frequent hand washing. Usually the small one person porta potties don’t have running water and soap, but there are some portable bathrooms that do contain a sink, running water, and soap inside. If you have access to a regular restroom or portable restroom trailer, take advantage and wash, wash, wash!

The Mayo Clinic offers some effective washing tips: wet your hands, apply soap, scrub for at least 20 seconds, rinse well, and then dry. If there are paper towels available, try to use one to turn off the faucet so your hands will remain germ free. It’s a good idea to get into the habit of washing your hands before leaving the bathroom. This will greatly cut the chance of spreading and bringing those unwanted germs with you wherever you go.

Remember, toilets are not the culprit…let’s try to give them a better rep!

It should be a day where she doesn’t have to worry about anything; a day where she can be free to focus on her family, guests, and of course, her groom.

A wedding in a church or a reception hall is wonderful, and takes plenty of planning. An outdoor wedding, however, adds an extra twist. It takes a certain amount of special planning. For instance, you have to take into consideration time, location, weather, guest seating, catering, electrical access, and portable bathroom accommodations. Most of these things take time and effort to plan, view or visit. One thing that doesn’t require any effort, however, is the portable bathroom rental.

Portable restroom trailers for outdoor weddings are necessary and can be stress-free. They blend in, which is great for upscale events, and convey class and elegance. Portable bathrooms are clean and provide comfort for your guests without breaking the budget. Some also offer attendant services and amenity baskets as an extra luxurious option.

You’re already throwing the celebration of a lifetime…why not complete it with a hassle-free potty break for your guests so that you can focus on your special day?

Although these seem like insignificant questions, they are important if you want your guests to feel pampered, taken care of, and comfortable when nature calls.

Attendant services for porta potty rentals are often overlooked when planning events; however, they are extremely beneficial. Attendants monitor the crowd and keep track of how many and how frequently guests enter and leave the restroom. They will enter the portable restroom multiple times throughout the event to make sure it is clean and dry. When necessary, the attendant will restock the toilet paper and paper towels, refill the soap dispenser, and clean the toilet area to ensure a safe, sanitary environment.

For an even more luxurious experience for your guests, there are packages that offer deluxe baskets filled with amenities such as hand towels, mouth wash, hair spray, deodorant, breath mints, etc. This is a great option for those events in which guests will be dressed to impress and expecting first-class quality.

Whatever the occasion or type of event, the pleasure and comfort of your guests are top priority…don’t you want to leave a lasting impression?

Generally, the portable potties that the majority of people know are the single standing, small, smelly, stifling stall that does not include a sink, but rather a sanitizer dispenser instead. They are usually provided at large public events with people going in and out every minute. It is true that some portable potties are cleaner than others, though it is not a remedy for the thousands of multiplying germs festering within.

Not to worry… there is good news! There are also some models that include a shower, and some of the higher end luxury portable restrooms even have a fireplace in them!

Who wouldn’t want to go in there for a little extra “me” time?!?

hand sanitizer used for alcohol [...]

According to news reports, teenagers have a new approach to getting a buzz. They are now turning to hand sanitizer for alcohol consumption. As sickening as it sounds, we all know that teenagers tend to have a “nothing will happen to me” mindset, which makes them willing to take on all kinds of risks. Throw that on top of the fact that everyone has access to hand sanitizer and we have a very dangerous new trend.

In order to kill germs, hand sanitizer must have very high alcohol content. This makes it easier and quicker to get the buzz teenagers are looking for, especially when mixed with salt. The salt separates the alcohol out, making it even stronger and more hazardous. A small amount goes a long way.

This new discovery isn’t dangerous strictly because of the consumption, but because teenagers have access to hand sanitizer wherever they go. It’s available at home, school, doctor’s offices, stores, porta potties, just to name a few. Imagine a group of teenagers hanging out on a Friday night, looking for something to do. They grab a shaker of salt and wander to a nearby field that has a couple of porta potties. Since porta potties aren’t locked, they go inside, squirt out all of the hand sanitizer from the dispensers, and they now have a "potentially deadly cocktail”.

Only time will tell what will come of this new trend. I wonder… since there seem to be so many additional issues with porta potties, are they as beneficial as we once thought?

Washing hands after using the restroom, is especially important due to the vast amount of germs; however, porta potties never seem to help the cause since there are no sinks or running water.

Last year, a toddler and several others that attended the North Carolina State Fair ended up in the hospital with life threatening illnesses due to bacteria they had on their hands. Research from the Tork Green Hygiene Council shows that 85% of adults do not wash their hands after using a public restroom. People that do not wash their hands after being in a public place are at higher risk for serious illness. Not only is hand washing important after using the restroom, but also after touching public things, before and after handling food, or shaking someone’s hand. It is necessary to wash away harmful germs and bacteria in order to stay healthy.

In order to prevent unnecessary spreading of diseases in public places, such as the fair in North Carolina, portable restrooms that contain sinks with running water and an adequate amount of soap are essential. Even if there are other restrooms in the facility, supplying more portable restrooms to provide additional sinks to wash hands and avoid long lines will ensure that the guests (and ultimately you) have plenty of opportunity to stay sanitary and healthy.

Imagine where the germs on someone’s hands that didn’t wash after coming out of a porta potty go… rides, games, food??

Porta potties, before a race is about to begin, are not in the category of acceptable places. Last weekend we ran in a 10K. While we were there we experienced the perfect example of why proper planning for a large crowd is required.

Ten minutes before the race was scheduled to start, we noticed an unbelievably long line in front of the porta potties. We knew all those people would never get through the line by the time the race was to start. We were right! While half of the line had to run to another set of porta johns on the other side of the grounds, the other half stayed in line. After what seemed like forever (a half an hour), we were on our way.

Even though the coordinator apologized and promised to have a better solution next year, the damage was already done. People were not happy. Embarrassment, along with the threat of injury from waiting around and not being properly warmed up, on top of the risk of disgruntled runners not returning next year is incentive for a better solution. Fortunately, there are portable restroom trailers designed for large crowds that are a quicker, cleaner, easier, and more affordable solution. Did I already mention quicker…?

Who says being the talk of the race has to be a bad thing?

Spring Break is right around the corner, and that means many of us will enjoy a few days away from the cold, lying on the beach in the sun, sipping a frozen drink topped with fruit and an umbrella.

The only thing that could possibly ruin this ideal vacation would be ending up stuck in your hotel room, nursing a bad stomach illness.

It's happened to all of us at one time or another… and we usually blame it on something we ate. But according to a new study just published in Epidemiology, that stomach ache may actually have been caused by the sand you were just laying on.

The study found E. coli bacteria and concentrations of sewage on several beaches they studied, and flow up studies on beaches across the country resulted in the same findings.

After interviewing nearly 5,000 beachgoers, they found that people digging in the sand were more likely to suffer from gastrointestinal distress one day after going to the beach, than those people who kept their hands out of the sand.

Does that mean you shouldn't dig in the sand when you're at the beach? Not at all. You can still build those epic sand castles… just make sure to wash your hands right after you put the final flag in the tallest turret.

And while a rinsing may help to reduce risk of developing an illness, the best way, according to the researchers, is a good scrubbing with soap and clean water.

Can't find a restroom on the beach? Look for a portable restroom trailer. Our portable toilets are stationed at many beaches across the country, and most feature hot water, which is even more effective at killing those illness causing bacteria. Meaning you can spend more time on the beach, and less time in the hotel room, chugging Pepto.

And it's enough to make you sick.

According to HealthJockey.com, a series of tests conducted in London offices found that more than one in ten keyboards tested positive for E. coli and staphylococcus, the bacteria responsible for food poisoning. And the results were more than 150 times the acceptable limit for bacteria.

Lead microbiologist, James Francis said, “Two keyboards examined under a microscope contained levels of bacteria so high they had to be removed from the office.” Adding, “One carried more bacteria than the average toilet seat and I've rarely come across anything as filthy in my 22-year career.”

How does a keyboard become dirtier than a much-used office toilet seat? Easy: people eating lunch at their desks, not regularly cleaning their desks and equipment with cleaners (the study found nearly half the employees neglected this), and not following proper hygiene by washing their hands after using the restroom. This is the perfect recipe for bacteria development. And increases the chances for an employee to become ill.

Restrooms, on the other hand, are cleaned regularly in most offices. And portable restrooms, like ours, are not only cleaned regularly, but some even come with a full-time attendant whose job it is to make sure they're sanitary at all times. Keeping the bacteria risk to a minimum. Which is more than we can say for your computer. Maybe offices should hire keyboard attendants.

While the digital age has driven the demand for paper down, resulting in the closing of hundreds of paper mills nationwide, there is one type of paper that will never see a downturn in demand: Toilet paper. And it's this lowly staple of restrooms everywhere that's the reason one shuttered mill has been reopened, giving 176 people back their jobs.

According to a Wall Street Journal article the last mill to close in the tiny town of Gorham, New Hampshire, has been reopened. And the 100-year-old Gorham Paper & Tissue mill has the growing US population, and the demand for toilet paper that comes with it, to thank.

In the past, the mills in northern New Hampshire created rolls of writing paper, newsprint and printing paper, but as email and eBooks became more popular, the need for paper dropped an estimated 61% between 2001 and 2011. Workers and families who had worked at these mills for generations, suddenly found themselves unemployed.

And they stayed out of work until a private-equity firm noticed the demand for toilet tissue rose over 7% during the same time period. So they bought the mill, hired back many of the workers, and plan on pumping $60 million into the mill. That's a whole lot of green paper to bet on toilet paper.

Willis Blevins, the 70-year-old manager of Gorham Paper & Tissue said, "I know of nothing that can replace it. You can do digital on books and financials and all this, but it's hard to do digital on tissue paper, hand towels and so forth." He added, "Your bath tissue is always going to be there, in my opinion. What are you going to replace it with?"

He has good reason to be so certain—at Portable Restroom Trailers, we only use the highest quality tissue in our restrooms, and I doubt highly we'll see iToiletPaper announced at an Apple conference any time soon.

A Pennsylvania couple recently found an odd intruder invading their backyard: a purple squirrel.

According to reports, Connie and Percy Emert of Jersey Shore, PA had been trapping pesky animals who were stealing food from the bird feeders in their backyard. And last Sunday, they caught a highly unusual squirrel. A purple squirrel.

The brightly colored rodent has caused quite a stir, both on news stations and online, and triggered a slew of theories as to how he got that color, including gene mutation, and the result of a strange diet. A local game warden even took hair samples to analyze.

But the theory we subscribe to? We're going to guess the Mysterious Purple Squirrel of Central Pennsylvania simply stopped off in a local porta potty… and fell in. Getting covered in the blue liquid used to control odors. Either that, or a local beauty school student was practicing on local tree dwelling rodents, because she ran out of volunteers. But the porta potty theory is more solid. And if he had stopped in one of our portable restroom trailers instead, at least he would have enjoyed a little heated comfort before becoming a media celebrity.

portable restroom trailers at Super Bowl XLVI [...]

Usually our top-end portable restroom trailers are hired out for exclusive galas, private (read: very expensive) parties, and your more niche sporting events, like the PGA tournaments and the Kentucky Derby. So it’s nice that this week a lot of them are scattered around Indianapolis available for the large crowds at the Super Bowl Village. And while you might think a trip to the village would be an expensive proposition, happily it looks like that’s not the case.

According to reports by a pair of local Indy news teams, WISH TV 8 and WTHR 13, organizers and local merchants are doing their best to keep costs down so the average family can enjoy themselves, without breaking the bank.

They tracked the spending of a typical family of four, and found that hotel rooms close to the action can be had for under $100 for the night, and if you want to keep your car there, tack on another $17. (Which isn’t that terrible, considering at some sporting events, parking for just a few hours can be $20 or more.)

Feeding that family can get tricky, but if you’re willing to skip the street vendors, who tend to be a little pricey (around $16 for a burger, fries and a soft drink at one stand), and don’t mind fast food, you can save more than a few dollars. Some savvy locals have been enjoying the festivities outside at the village, then walking down to the Circle Centre Mall and having something to eat in the food court. It’s less expensive, and they can sit down at tables and also enjoy some indoor heat.

And the events at the big game aren’t out of reach either. WISH TV reports one family found a 4-pack of tickets online to the NFL Experience for just $90. If you don’t need the 4-pack, you can save $3 per ticket by buying them in person, instead of online. You will, however, have to wait in long lines. And for some attractions, those long lines can mean you could get turned away due to sellouts. That’s what’s been happening at the wildly popular zip line that lets you glide over the crowd, tethered to a cable. Want to avoid missing out? If you want to skip the long lines and get into special events, you can get an NFL-Xtra pass for $46 and get in like a VIP.

Our mission has always been to make our portable restroom trailers affordable to our event planners, so they can provide affordable events for families, whether it’s a street festival, Little League game, county fair or major sporting event like the Super Bowl. It’s great to see Indy keeping the Big Game within reach of the average family.

Super Bowl Survival: Staying Warm When Nature Calls

portable restroom trailers at Super Bowl XLVI [...]

Here’s a great story we just found posted on WTHR 13, the NBC affiliate in Indianapolis. Seems some people are worried about keeping warm during the cold weather in Indy for Super Bowl weekend, particularly when it comes to using portable restrooms.

Can you blame them? Sitting on a cold porta potty seat in freezing temperatures can make for one very unpleasant experience. Usually this isn’t a problem, because the game is held in a warm city, like Miami or San Diego, but Indy won the bid for Super Bowl XLVI and they want to show the world that a cold weather city can host a memorable big game weekend.

So the city’s event planners went all out to make sure that the hundreds of thousands of visitors who will be pouring into Indy for the big game were warm and cozy at all the events—including the time spent answering nature’s call between events. And that means heat lamps hanging down from the street lamps, heated benches throughout the city, and more than your average portable restroom trailer, with warmer interiors, had to be available.

We’re proud to say they chose to include trailers from Portable Restroom Trailers. If you check the link, you’ll see they call them “swanky,” but besides being upscale and comfortable, they also have special winter packages that include heated interiors and heated water. This technology allows outdoor events to be enjoyable for everyone who attends, even when they have to use a portable restroom in the dead of winter. And especially when you’re trying to convince an NFL committee to let you host a Super Bowl again…

The good news is planners now have more options available to keep guests coming out to events, no matter what the weather. And can expand planning calendars beyond just the over-booked high season, opening up new business opportunities. It looks like having warm, comfortable portable restrooms might just be the swing vote for cold weather cities to host more Super Bowls. You’re welcome, Green Bay…

Planning Summer Events? New Trailers Deliver ADA Advantages Without Breaking Your Budget

ADA portable restrooms for your budget [...]

Even though it's still cold outside, it's getting closer and closer to summer event season. And for many small towns and cities that means preparing for an influx of visitors and tourists. Along with an influx of visitor and tourist dollars.

And when we talk to a lot of these event planners, one of their biggest concerns is how to comply with ADA regulations so they can take care of their visitors who are physically challenged. Many municipalities have strict ordinances, codes and zoning issues that make it prohibitively expensive to build a permanent structure that complies with the rules. And typical portable potties are not built with the ramps or the space clearances necessary for ADA compliance. This causes a challenge not just from a legal standpoint, but also from a convenience standpoint for visitors who need these facilities.

What we advise these planners is to stop thinking "permanent structure" or "traditional porta-potty" and go in between. You can have the convenience of a portable structure that is easy to store in the off-season, yet is attractive and comfortable enough to offer guests without embarrassment, while still meeting ADA requirements.

There are a wide variety of portable restroom trailers on the market, both for sale and rental, that can give you what you need, within your budget. And they are being improved upon year after year. One we particularly like right now is the new Beach Elite II ADA+2 unit. It comes in soft, earth tones, coordinated vanities with granite-look counter tops, with an abundance of lighting. Best of all, it is ADA compliant in all 50 states and allows for full 360-degree turning of wheelchairs in the ADA suite. Both impressive and practical.

So if you're planning your summer events, expecting a large number of guests all season long, or just for a single large festival or concert, don't invest more than you have to in making ADA compliant facilities available. Remember, you can have an elegant solution that doesn't require a permanent investment.

Think Woodstock…days on end with thousands of people, all outdoors in the heat, and NOBODY has showered for days on end. While that may have been a hit in the 60′s, today we are spoiled by hot showers and strong deodorant. For that very reason, shower trailers are gaining popularity in the event planning arena. Having a shower trailer on site can turn a single day event into a multi-day festival, like the sky diving festival Portable Restroom Trailers will be providing units for over labor day weekend! We’ve done Nascar events, horse races and shows, weddings, university graduations, biker events, NFL and other sporting events, wine festivals, and the list goes on and on. Corporate sponsorships have also increased, because now they can put their name in front of the consumer for days instead of hours, which means a huge difference to their bottom line when it comes to advertising exposure. Whether a separate shower trailer from the restroom trailers or a combination shower/toilet combination trailer, the trend is growing to have facilities on site.

Although construction sites have been using shower trailers for quite some time, the general public is rather new to the concept. When you see the inside of these units, you will be amazed that the look and feel is more of a home bathroom than a portable shower. The trailers can be as fancy or as simple as you want them, they come in multiple shapes and sizes with amenities to match. Since all units come with self-contained water tanks as well, these can be set up even if there is not running water on site.

Another constant market for portable restroom and shower trailers is the Disaster Relief market. They provide sanitary, well ventilated, fresh smelling facilities for workers and victims alike. Usually set up on long-term rental contracts, our units can solve at least one challenge these areas face…clean facilities to help aid workers and victims feel more comfortable in the midst of chaos and suffering. While we always are grateful for business, it is bitter-sweet to provide mobile restrooms and showers for Disaster Relief sites.
