After closing for repair from the damages of superstorm Sandy, the Statue of Liberty reopened last week just in time for the 4th! It was inspiring for the thousands in attendance to see one of the nation’s symbols of freedom reopened on America’s birthday. We were proud to assist the reopening with one of our restroom trailers.Liberty Island and Liberty State Park have been closed since October, 2012 due to damages from Hurricane Sandy. While Lady Liberty herself suffered no damage the structures around the statue needed major repairs. While there was some cosmetic damage to the island and docks, the biggest problem was below ground, where floodwaters damaged heating and cooling equipment, sewage treatment equipment and most of the island’s power supply.It was unclear whether Liberty Park would also open in time for the Fourth of July festivities. The docks that provide ferry transportation to Liberty Island were also damaged in the storm. This left Manhattan as the only place visitors could board a ferry to see the statue. Liberty Park opening means the opportunity for thousands who would otherwise not have been able to see the statue to make the trip.Our portable restroom will accommodate Liberty Park visitors for the summer while the rebuilding process continues. Our 6 unit Advantage series restroom trailer was put in place on July 3rd, to provide quality, clean, flushable restroom facilities for guests visiting Liberty Park. The unit is fully climate controlled with air conditioning and heat. The interior fresh water tank, allows the unit to be used where no water access is available. The self contained waste water tank will serve large crowds in between servicing.Portable Restroom Trailers is proud to be part of the rebuilding process. This Fourth of July we celebrated the strength we have shown as a nation as we overcome this tragedy.

Last week marked the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, which was fought from July 1 to July 3, 1863. This three day battle proved pivotal for both the Confederate and Union armies. More than 50, 000 soldiers were killed, injured, or went missing in this essential battle in history. More than 1,000 bodies are still buried in the field. Gettysburg was a major tourist attraction this weekend. Many flocked to the memorable sight of the famous battle. There were Battle of Gettysburg re-enactments taking place, tourist shops available, Civil War museums open, parades, and of course, the notorious ghost tours which take place as it gets dark at night. Though there are many different versions to the story, there is a consistent ending…the ghosts of the dead soldiers come out to greet the visitors at night. Not to haunt, but to help tell their story. At last, soldiers from both sides of the battle line come together for one common purpose. And tourists from all over the country travel to Gettysburg to see and hear these ghosts’ stories. In order to help accommodate the crowds’ restroom needs, our partners set up a restroom trailer in Gettysburg. These additional bathroom units can be centrally located so that guests can easily, quickly, and comfortably find and use the facility. The restroom trailers are safe and sanitary with flushable toilets, full hand wash areas, and plenty of ventilation for fresh air. We’re excited that our partners were able to be a part of this historic, monumental commemoration.

There are so many ways to celebrate the 4th of July, from spending the day at the beach, to watching local parades, to getting your adrenaline pumping on crazy rides at amusement parks. We've noticed that most people like to take advantage of the nice weather and day off to do something outdoors. Being prepared can help the experience go smoothly and make it more enjoyable.Amusement and water parks: If you’re heading to a ‘dry’ park, sunscreen might be necessary in case you have to wait in line in the sun. Dry clothes or ponchos for those wet soggy rides or an unexpected shower is also a good idea if you don’t want to stay wet. If you’re spending the day at a water park you’ll need plenty of sunscreen, towels, and a change of clothes for the ride home.Beach: Umbrellas or tents are a good way to create a refuge from the hot burning sun. Plenty of sunscreen is essential, and bringing your own food and drinks might help you save money since snack bars tend to charge more for their services.Outdoor events: Whether you’re headed to a parade or hosting an event outdoors, sunscreen and umbrellas are always good to have on-hand, just in case. Sometimes parades are extra loud, so packing some cotton balls or ear plugs might be beneficial if you or a child have sensitive ears. If you are hosting an event, don’t forget about portable restroom accommodations for your guests. If you did forget you can still call anyways; there’s always a chance you can still reserve a restroom trailer for your party.No matter what you do tomorrow, checking the weather ahead of time can save you a lot of time and extra money. Drinking plenty of fluids is one of the most important precautions you can take. That hot humid weather can quickly suck the fluids from your body, leaving you dehydrated and not feeling well. If you’re heading out in the evening to watch fireworks, don’t forget the bug repellent. And flash lights may prove helpful since all lights go off when those magnificent sparks of color explode in the night sky.
