Intensive Training for Intense Situations To keep their firefighters in top condition and ready for the likelihood of a fire in the bustling city, Las Vegas owns and operates a state-of-the-art fire and rescue training center in a quiet residential area on the city’s northeast side.  With several large classrooms, large interactive projection screens, and a university-like atmosphere – this is a place where firefighters and paramedics from the surrounding region come to receive world-class education and training. But the most important learning takes place outside the classroom, on the center’s various real-world training courses.  Several concrete buildings at the center exist only to be set on fire again and again. There are single story residential-style buildings, and dual towers to practice controlling fires in high-rise environments like the hotels on the strip.  A pool of cars is kept on hand to teach vehicle extrication procedures. And there are even trucks and train cars onsite to practice chemical spills and hazmat scenarios. While the learning facilities at the training center are truly best-in-class; the restroom facilities could occasionally be overwhelmed when large numbers of new recruits were onsite for group training exercises.  The traditional porta-potties that were brought in to accommodate the large groups were unpleasant and extremely uncomfortable on hot summer days.
