Tonight is the final night of the Democratic National Convention. Thousands of delegates, superdelegates, and constituents descended on Philadelphia to cast their votes for the democratic nominee. A historical event, because for the first time a women will accept the democratic nomination for president of the United States of America. Very exciting, but just as exciting are the $300 million expected to pour into the city, according to convention organizers and city leaders.Committee leaders have made quite a statement with the decision to offer a large piece of that money to ethnic minorities, women, and LGBT-owned businesses. “Giving contracts to ethnic minorities, women, and LGBT-owned businesses aligns with the values of the Democratic party, and is an especially high priority since these groups make up its voter base,” says Reverend Leah Daughtry, CEO of the Democratic National Convention Committee. The committee has pledged to give at least 35 percent of its contracts to these groups. “When we talk about diversity and inclusion, it’s not just about voting, but about where we spend our dollars,” says Daughtry, according to The Atlantic.Portable Restroom Trailers, LLC was founded in 2007. The Latest on the Transgender Bathroom Debate & Unisex Restrooms

A few weeks ago, we published a post covering the history and most recent legislation that’s sparked a national debate on unisex bathrooms and public accommodations for transgender persons. It’s a discussion that continues to rage on, pushing more states than just North Carolina to draft up legislation. In response, the Obama Administration has recently issued a statement and we’re beginning to see the need for federal guidelines on the topic. To get educated on HB2 and the now notorious North Carolina “bathroom bill,” we recommend reading our last post here. From 2015 to 2016, much of our national dialog and unrest in civil rights has been related to the LGBT community. Fueled by the Supreme Court’s historic ruling in favor of same-sex marriage, many states have sought to button up their conservative policies and introduce/enact anti-LGBT legislation. The most well-known of these has been North Carolina’s bathroom bill, passed in March 2016. However, there are more than 100 active bills across 22 states – covering a wide range of categories – discriminating against the LGBT community in one way or another. As it relates to transgender bathroom access, the interactive map below (latest updated May 4, 2016) shows a pictorial representation of current legislation.Status of Transgender Access Legislation | InsideGovSurprisingly, it’s been the business community that has played a major role so far in limiting the actions of state governments. Just this week, 49ers owner, Jed York, spoke out against North Carolina’s controversial bathroom law and followed it up with a $75,000 give to the LGBT-rights advocacy group, Equality North Carolina.  While it’s nice to think that the influence of private money on public policy can regulate this issue long-term, the White House has spoken out in hopes of steering the conversation on a national level. In letters issued on May 13, 2016 from the Justice Department and Education Department, the Obama Administration directed public schools to allow transgender access to restrooms. Citing Tile IX, which prohibits sexual discrimination at education facilities receiving federal funding, the letters mean transgender students must be allowed to use the bathroom of their choice. In response, 11 states have sued the Obama administration in a suit filed on Wednesday (May 25, 2016). The states of Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, along with the Arizona Department of Education and Maine Gov. Paul LePage are listed as plaintiffs-and most likely the first outspoken challengers in what will be an ongoing debate. At Portable Restroom Trailers, LLC, we are continuing to stay on top of the most current events and local legislation related to unisex bathrooms and the transgender restrooms debate. #ToiletPaper Portable Restrooms Share The Right Way to Roll and Other Fun Facts!

OVER OR UNDER? The debate has raged on for years (124 to be exact) but if you are an over person, then we have good news for you! Even though the Chinese were the first to use a form of toilet paper over 2,000 year ago, it wasn’t until Scott Wheeler submitted his patent in 1891 that the modern version of the toilet paper roll was born.  The original patent was recently discovered and it has come to light after all these years to find that outside or OVER WAS THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED TO BE! Portable Restrooms has understood the importance of saving water drop by drop since its beginning in 2007 by offering a full line of portable restrooms designed to work harmoniously with our environment. Our portable restrooms offer energy-efficient, flushable toilets and urinals that require very little water to work effectively. We take extra measures to ensure our services provide clean, safe portable restrooms solutions for both visitors and the environment by stocking our units with recyclable paper products and environmentally-friendly hand soaps, as well as servicing our units with environmentally-safe cleaning products.

The Case Against Gender Neutral Bathrooms: Male Dominant Portable Restroom Trailers versus Female Dominant Portable Restroom Trailers

[caption id="attachment_18431" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Exterior of a male dominant portable restroom trailer.[/caption]Let’s be honest, when you’re in a crowded public place and you pass the restrooms, more often than not you’ll notice a huge line outside the women’s facilities and no line for the men’s. The struggle is real for the female gender. However, what if we reverse the situation and stop into a football tailgating lot? More often than not, you’ll see more men in attendance filling up the restroom queue. Why is this important? Portable restroom trailers can be designed to address these issues. Rather than laying out a traditional unit with an equal division of men’s and women’s restrooms, they can be reapportioned to be male dominant or female dominant. This is particularly significant for certain types of locations – and something you don’t hear much about in the current buzz of moving to gender-neutral bathrooms.[caption id="attachment_18435" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Example layout of a male dominant unit. This restroom features 5 private stalls and 4 urinals in the men’s suite. The women’s suite includes 2 private stalls.[/caption]Browse all female dominant units >>Browse all male dominant units >>When people think sporting events, they often think of catering to male fans. However, this isn’t always the case. We recently worked with Boardman High School in Boardman, Ohio to implement a female dominant portable restroom trailer into their football stadium. Surprisingly enough, a lot of sporting locations and manufacturing plants can go either way. Horse race tracks, baseball fields, and football stadiums might require male dominant portable restroom trailers, while swim clubs and tennis clubs might require female dominant units. Heavy manufacturing like energy plants and mining might seek out more male restrooms, while light manufacturing like sewing and packaging might require female.[caption id="attachment_18438" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Interior snapshot of a male dominant portable restroom trailer.[/caption]Regardless of the situation, it’s good to know that Portable Restroom Trailers, Inc. can accommodate the request for either configuration. Working with a National Sales Account Manager, we can assess a client’s needs to design a custom layout that addresses their gender based issues. In fact, it’s something we’re seeing more and more of… and that’s because it makes sense. Today more than ever, we focus in on the individual’s experience and how we can improve it. Whether it’s in a public place or a work environment, having an adequate number of restroom facilities is extremely important. If you think a male dominant portable restroom trailer or a female dominant portable restroom trailer would be a good solution for your location, contact us today. A knowledgeable member of our sales team is waiting to serve you.

SPRING CLEANING Great Tips For Portable Restrooms!

#SPRINGCLEANING PORTABLE RESTROOMS NEED LOVE TOO Although we know you clean your portable restroom trailer more than once a year, Spring is the perfect season to spend a little extra time and effort getting it into tip-top shape.  It not only extends the life of your valuable asset, your guests will really notice how everything sparkles and shines! Speaking of sparkling and shining, one of our top portable restrooms manufacturers passed on some great tips to us that we want to share with you: MIRRORS For best results, mirrors should be cleaned with warm water, then wiped and dried using a soft, lint free cloth. When using common household glass cleaners, never spray directly on the mirror. Always apply cleaner directly to a lint free cloth, wipe, and dry immediately. Proper care and handling should always be taken to avoid allowing any liquid or substance to contact the edges of the mirror. Continuous use of household cleaners in portable restrooms can result in edge damage as many contain chemicals such as chlorine, alkali or sulfuric acid, which can be harmful to mirrors and should be used with caution. STAINLESS STEEL – Toilet Paper Dispensers/Sanitary Napkin Receptacle/Sinks and Trims Wipe or polish with the grain direction of satin finishes. Remove any cleaning or soap residue from stainless surface with water and wipe dry with clean cloth. Avoid cleaning products containing bleach, hydrochloric acids and or chlorides…these are frequently found in toilet bowl or tile cleaners and in abrasive scrubbing powders. These will cause rust! Avoid use of steel wool which can leave behind fine particles that cause surface rust. Avoid use of abrasive cleaners on bright polish stainless steel surfaces.
