A Helping Hand in Disaster Relief for Those in the Path of Hurricane Harvey

Here comes hurricane Harvey, widely predicted to be the strongest storm on the Texas coast in the last half century.  While cities and towns all along the coast are busy boarding up and beginning the evacuation process, PRT is speeding their way with a long line of mobile resources to help with the disaster relief effort.

How Mobile Restroom Trailers Can Help with Natural Disasters

When you think about hurricanes, earthquakes, and tornados – you probably don’t think about mobile restroom trailers.  But, believe it or not, natural disaster response is a big part of our business.  Of course, we always hope to deploy our disaster response units as infrequently as possible.  But we’re also very proud that our trailers have the capability to bring critical sanitary services straight to the center of any disaster site to help those affected in their time of need.

When disaster strikes, tens of thousands of people can be left without power and plumbing.  And that problem compounds when thousands more people arrive in the aftermath to help with the response and recovery efforts.

MAUI ADA + 7 STATION PARK MODEL SKID PORTABLE RESTROOMS TRAILERPRT’s mobile resources are uniquely suited to relieve this critical lack of sanitation.  Our units can instantly restore the ability of victims and first responders to keep themselves, their clothing, and their equipment clean and safe as they deal with the fallout of a disaster.

A Texas City with a History of Hurricanes

Galveston, Texas is no stranger to the danger and damage that hurricanes can cause.  The city was famously devastated by a historic storm in 1900, and it has been hit by another fifteen major storms over the years since then.  With a history like that, the city has become uniquely adept at preparing for and responding to hurricanes when they happen.

As Hurricane Harvey was approaching, the city of Galveston reached out to PRT to begin planning for the availability of mobile restroom trailers and sanitation resources for the response effort.  This isn’t the first time we’ve teamed up with Galveston to help with a hurricane.  And unfortunately, it probably won’t be the last.

Equipment Tailored to Help with Hurricanes

The most obvious solution PRT can provide is clean, sanitary restroom facilities.  Our commercial trailers are built to withstand intensive use and high foot traffic, making them a perfect fit for a disaster response effort.  But this is only one of the critical services that PRT offers.

In the wake of a major storm surge, the flood water that is left behind can be rife with bacteria and other germs – posing a serious health risk for anyone in the area.  Our mobile shower trailers provide a way for those onsite to keep themselves clean and healthy while they work to repair the damage left behind by major storms.  In the worst scenarios, our decontamination trailers offer a controlled environment where responders can sanitize their bodies and equipment after exposure to hazardous materials and germs.

Finally, our commercial grade laundry trailers help keep first responders clean, comfortable, and sanitary with up to fourteen stacking washer/dryer combination units.  These trailers include folding tables and oversized utility sinks – everything you would expect to find at a traditional laundromat.

The Long Weekend Ahead

At the time of this writing, Harvey is expected to hit the coast Friday night as a Category 3 hurricane.  He has the potential to produce winds up to 125 miles per hour, with storm surges up to twelve feet.  Areas near the eye of the storm may receive up to thirty-five inches of rain, and power outages are likely throughout eastern and central Texas.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the people who live and work on the Texas coast.  We hope that everyone in the area is able to finish their preparations and find safe harbor before the storm hits.  We will be waiting nearby to move in with our response equipment as soon as the storm clears.
