This time, their organization in Los Angeles reached out with a need for shower trailers. This establishment has a very specific purpose. They serve a low income side of the City of Angels, providing services for the community. Many visitors they see are homeless and trying to get back on their feed. The office’ purpose is to rehabilitate those who are struggling. With mental health being a hot topic in the nation today, we can’t help but admire this organization’s efforts. They exist solely to get those struggling back on their feet. They want the community to thrive with healthy minds and healthy bodies. The provide a wide variety of solutions for those in need, and they are ready to add yet another service to their list. With shower trailers, they could provide the homeless community with something that most of them have no access to. Those of us with homes often take for granted the luxury of a shower. Many of us can’t imagine life without. For those living on the street, a hot shower is hard to come by. It is something that each American should have. When the Salvation Army described the situation and highlighted that many of their visitors have no access to bathrooms, we felt their passion for their community and their eagerness to provide this everyday amenity to those who don’t have it. Their passion was palpable and contagious - we were eager to get started and send the shower trailers they needed ASAP.   A Solution with Shower Trailers   Salvation Army needed an affordable restroom solution for the many men and women that they provide services for. Maintenance issues are bound to arise: what if your water freezes? What if the hose gets clogged by ice? How do I keep my restroom guests comfortable during use? These are all thoughts we’ve had when thinking about how to continue to improve our product. We want you to have the highest quality experience possible after your purchase. When it comes to cold weather, note these tips to ensure your shower trailers stay functioning and keeps that high quality for long periods of time. Protect Your Water Supply Wrap heat tape around a ¾” garden hose. Use duct tape to hold it in place, about every 12 inches. Put foam tube insulation around the hose and heat tape. Leave the plugs and power lights uncovered. Run duct tape down the insulation, leaving the connecting ends, plugs and power lights uncovered. If you cover them, you will not be able to connect the water or power. Leave test lights and power lights uncovered (for testing and to be sure the hose remains working).   Create A Box Place two 1500-watt electric heaters under the unit. Be sure you have sufficient power! Build a 2×2 or 2×4 wood frame to fit underneath each side of the unit. This is going to box the bottom of the outside of the unit. Fill any gaps with insulation Cut ½” plywood to fit frame for each side. Be sure to consider stairs when cutting your wood. Stairs should be out and in place before measuring. Measure and cut out a 6”x6” square to cover the drain access. Attach this with hinges so you can access the drain when needed. This will protect drain valve from freezing. Eliminate gaps and holes on the tongue side of the unit with R-13 (or greater) insulation. Staple insulation inside the wood box Cut a piece of insulation in half and lay it on the ground where the box will be placed. This eliminates gaps between the wood and the ground.   After Plywood is Attached Fill any small gaps on the top and bottom of the box with insulation Staple bubble wrap around the outside of the wood unit. This closes of gaps and keeps cold air out and heat in. Use electrical tape to cover plug connections that will remain outside.   For Units Not Used in Winter Eliminate the use of power and water until the unit is ready to be used again. Drain water from all the lines. During the holiday season last year, and every year for that matter, families everywhere begin singing songs that romanticize the winter season. Songs like “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” have many of us ready for the cold, snowy season, with visions of building snowmen and snow angels in our heads. We even had some of our portable restrooms for rent at ice skating rinks, where the winter spirit was truly alive.Now, as we quickly approach the month of February, the romance of winter is starkly broken. The Midwest and East Coast are experiencing what weather professionals call the Polar Arctic Vortex. While this may sound like something out of a movie, it is no joking matter. The National Weather Service describes a polar vortex as “a large area of low pressure and cold air surrounding both of the Earth’s poles. It ALWAYS exists near the poles, but weakens in summer and strengthens in winter. The term "vortex" refers to the counter-clockwise flow of air that helps keep the colder air near the Poles. Many times during winter in the northern hemisphere, the polar vortex will expand, sending cold air southward with the jet stream. This occurs fairly regularly during wintertime and is often associated with large outbreaks of Arctic air in the United States.”Record low temperatures will be challenged by this polar arctic vortex over the next week, with some towns and cities in the Midwest reaching as low as -65 degrees! PREPARING YOURSELF FOR THE POLAR ARCTICWhile the Polar Arctic is nothing new, it is certainly bringing some record breaking temperatures with it this year. In some areas that reach -20 and colder, frostbite seems almost instant as exposed skin can acquire it in as little as thirty minutes. Nature itself must take extra care. Animals that aren’t hibernating must stay near fresh water to keep warm.With the many warnings that are being sent out by weather reports and news stations, it is important to take action now and prepare for the temperatures to come. Here are some tips from the National Weather Service that will ensure you, your family, and your home tough it out during the cold.Remember the four Ps: Pets, Pipes, Plants and People. Bring all pets inside and provide them with plenty of water and food.Frozen pipes are one of the worst forms of damage that extreme cold weather can bring on. Make sure you insulate all pipes, especially those not located in warm areas of the house, and empty all outside faucets of water. If your pipes do freeze, turn on the water and defrost with a heating pad or space heater.Cover your plants or bring them inside if possible. Plants will die in sub-zero weather.Make sure you have all the necessary supplies you need to stay inside, like food, drinking water, flashlights and blankets in case of a power outage, and other items to keep you and your family warm, comfortable, and safe.Going outside is not recommended, but if you must, dress accordingly. This means layers, one insulated jacket, a warm hat, face mask, at least two layers of pants, and waterproof boots.PREPARE YOUR PORTABLE RESTROOM FOR RENTAs the Polar Arctic approaches, we want to ensure that all of our renters are prepared for this extreme weather. Christmas Candylane Details Hershey Park was excited to announce a new addition to the park: Chocolate Town! This new concept is all about the sweet that put Hershey’s on the map: their delicious chocolate. Prepare to take pictures in front of a Hershey Kiss-shaped fountain, a new roller coaster, an historic carousel preserving a little of Hershey’s history, and more! This new and exciting park is designed to encourage guests to eat, shop, play and relax. Get ready for this new park’s grand opening in 2020.   A SOLUTION WITH RESTROOM RENTALS   As the construction for Chocolate Town begun, the company realized they’d have to provide some necessary amenities for construction crews and onsite workers. This includes a restroom. As the brick-and-mortar option was is still under construction, they needed a portable and cost-effective solution. With our knowledge of restroom rentals and wide variety of options to choose from, we were ready to help. They needed a temporary restroom solution, and we were quick to recommend a number of portable restroom rentals that would service additional employees. The 10 Station Portable Restrooms Rental, Classic Series was the perfect fit for them. This 24-foot portable restroom trailer is equipped for high-volume use with an 865-gallon waste tank and 200-gallon fresh water tank. Visitors are greeted by a clean and fresh exterior that is built with aluminum steps and handrails for safe and convenient access. The entryway to each suite has ample lighting above the door for added safety and easy entry during anytime, day or night. As visitors enter one of our most popular restroom rentals, they find a clean design and comfortable interior. The men’s suite includes 2 privacy stalls and 3 urinals, while the women’s suite includes 5 privacy stalls. Each stall of the women’s suite has a flushable china toilet that flushes with the step of a pedal. The suite is equipped with a double sink vanity, shatterproof mirror, and a paper towel dispenser for a full and upscale restroom experience. The men’s suite also has flushable toilets in each privacy stall, and urinals are given some added privacy with walls separating each one. Two sink vanities and shatterproof mirrors finish out the men’s suite, with a paper towel dispenser for hand drying. The entire unit also features air conditioning and heat strips in order to maintain a comfortable interior temperature in their restroom rentals no matter what outside weather may be like. These strips can easily increase or decrease the temperature of the unit when necessary, ensuring that guests have a comfortable experience. A final feature of this and many of our other restroom rentals is the Smarter Restrooms App. In February of 2017, we launched the Smarter Restrooms App, and this tool has helped our many partners to more effectively run their restroom rentals business. Managers have capabilities to remotely control lights, air conditioning, heating, water heaters, and trailer power. We love making our business customers happy, but also value the ability to make someone’s work day that much better.   WINTERIZE YOUR RESTROOM TRAILER   For those who experience extreme weather conditions, we know how hard it can get to maintain your restroom rentals. Maintenance issues are bound to arise: what if your water freezes? What if the hose gets clogged by ice? How do I keep my restroom guests comfortable during use? These are all thoughts we’ve had when thinking about how to continue to improve our product. We want you to have the highest quality experience possible after your purchase. When it comes to cold weather, note these tips to ensure your restroom rentals stay functioning and keeps that high quality for long periods of time. Protect Your Water Supply Wrap heat tape around a ¾” garden hose. Use duct tape to hold it in place, about every 12 inches. Put foam tube insulation around the hose and heat tape. Leave the plugs and power lights uncovered. Run duct tape down the insulation, leaving the connecting ends, plugs and power lights uncovered. If you cover them, you will not be able to connect the water or power. Leave test lights and power lights uncovered (for testing and to be sure the hose remains working).   Create A Box Place two 1500-watt electric heaters under the unit. Be sure you have sufficient power! Build a 2×2 or 2×4 wood frame to fit underneath each side of the unit. This is going to box the bottom of the outside of the unit. Fill any gaps with insulation Cut ½” plywood to fit frame for each side. Be sure to consider stairs when cutting your wood. Stairs should be out and in place before measuring. Measure and cut out a 6”x6” square to cover the drain access. Attach this with hinges so you can access the drain when needed. This will protect drain valve from freezing. Eliminate gaps and holes on the tongue side of the unit with R-13 (or greater) insulation. Staple insulation inside the wood box Cut a piece of insulation in half and lay it on the ground where the box will be placed. This eliminates gaps between the wood and the ground.   After Plywood is Attached Fill any small gaps on the top and bottom of the box with insulation Staple bubble wrap around the outside of the wood unit. This closes of gaps and keeps cold air out and heat in. Use electrical tape to cover plug connections that will remain outside.   For Units Not Used in Winter Eliminate the use of power and water until the unit is ready to be used again. Drain water from all the lines.
