Recycling Specialty Materials in America’s Heartland Cobalt mines have attracted a lot of attention in the press over the past few years – including scrutiny of the health risks and working conditions faced by cobalt miners around the world.  But cobalt is an essential component in many of the most common and popular rechargeable batteries – including lithium-ion and nickel-metal hydride. These are the batteries that power our smartphones, laptops, electric cars, and more. Our client developed a proprietary process that has had quite an impact on the markets for cobalt and nickel.  The process allows them to recycle used lithium and nickel batteries, capture the cobalt and nickel, and refine those specialty materials to be used again in other products.  This process keeps these rare and valuable elements out of landfills, and relieves pressure on the cobalt supply chain and its mining operations. Salvaged cobalt and nickel can be used in a wide spectrum of applications.  Altogether the recycling process yields more than 360 different chemical products.  Some of the recovered materials are sold back to rechargeable battery manufacturers.  Other chemicals from the recycling process are useful for dying ceramics, fertilizing farm crops, making hard-metal cutting tools, and much more. Our standard units remain warm and comfortable all the way down into the mid-30s; but a few upgrades are available that can keep your luxury portable bathroom warm and welcoming even in freezing temperatures.Our 3 season package features upgraded insulation in all walls and ceilings.  Additional heat is provided by a 750-watt electric heater in each suite – with upgraded 30-amp marine-style power cords to withstand harsh weather outside.  The waste tank is fitted with an electric DE-icing system to prevent freezing. With the 3-season package installed, our units are rated down to 30 degrees Fahrenheit.For even colder climates, we offer a 4-season Arctic package with more insulation, tougher components, and a ducted central furnace.  The 4-season upgrade uses R13 spray insulation in the sub-floor, R14 insulation in the walls and ceilings, and the entire exterior of the unit is wrapped in insulating foil before the metal walls are installed.  A ducted 40k BTU furnace is powered by dual 30lb liquid propane tanks. Their finished product constitutes approximately 25% of the gasoline that is consumed each year in the state of Ohio. All told, the refinery currently produces about two billion gallons of refined products annually.  And when they contacted us, they were preparing for a massive expansion project to drastically increase their production capacity, taking them from 10,000 barrels per day up to 40,000 barrels per day. The expansion project was an enormous undertaking, with a complicated schedule and implementation plan.  The refinery’s employees needed temporary restroom accommodations during the expansion, and they initially reached out to us for three high-capacity restroom rentals for a total of almost 40 individual restroom stalls.  When the project got underway, the refinery needed to add an additional unit to accommodate their C-Level Management team, and they relied on PRT to provide a luxury restroom on a tight schedule. Portable restrooms may seem like a fairly predictable business, but here at PRT we regularly come across new and interesting applications for our inventory of portable restroom trailers.  Some of the most exciting applications we’ve found this season have come from municipal governments in cities and towns across the country. Over the years, we have supported many cities with portable restroom trailers for their parks, sports arenas, and even for critical disaster relief efforts.  But over the past few months we’ve worked with some municipal governments that are finding innovative uses for portable restrooms – and we’d like to share a few noteworthy examples with you today.
