Pope Francis drew some attention last month when he used a portable toilet during a trip to Milan, highlighting the often-overlooked role that portable restroom rentals play during high profile public events like visits from the pope.
The pope’s impromptu pit stop showed that one old adage holds true no matter how high you rise in the world… “When you gotta go, you gotta go.”

Papal Visits and Portable Restroom Rentals
Papal visits have been known to draw huge regional crowds all around the world, and Pope Francis’ trip to Milan was no exception. Some 10,000 people from Milan and its surroundings showed up to catch a glimpse of the pope as he visited working class families and rallied the faithful in favor of those in need.
While portable restroom rentals may seem like a small consideration during a big event like this one, they’re quite important. When Philadelphia began planning for a visit from Pope Francis in 2015, restrooms were one of the top concerns on their list of preparations.
To accommodate the masses, the city lined Ben Franklin Parkway with approximately 3,000 portable restrooms. The bill for portable restroom rentals alone was estimated at $1.2 million.

By all accounts, Philadelphia did a nice job of providing accommodations for the pope’s large following. Milan did too, although it seems that they may have overlooked one very important factor. That is, a portable restroom fit for the pope.
