We recently partnered with Hoboken Sailing Club, a group that truly understands hot days on the water. Working with them by providing restroom trailers got us thinking about the spring and summer months, and we are now counting down the days!
As the sailing club prepares for their busy boating season, they realized their need for a restroom option that was affordable, easy, and quick with little to no permitting requirements. They gave us a call, and we were happy to answer and provide some solutions.
For the Love of Sailing
Hoboken Sailing Club is located at the Shipyard Marina on the Hudson River in New Jersey. Great views are easy to come by in this spot, with the skyline of New York City across the way, along with the Statue of Liberty standing strong.
The sailing club has a number of great offerings. To get started, the club requires that everyone take the Basic Keel Boat Course and obtain a New Jersey state boating license. Once you check these items off your list, you can then join the club and enjoy perks like boat parties, sailing from the Shipyard Marina, special gifts, and more.
For those looking to learn more about sailing, classes are available on weekdays and weekends. If you don’t own a boat yet, you are still welcome to join the club and use a boat rental. This club is truly well-rounded, always eager to accept new members into the club and grow their boating family.
This year, the sailing club realized they needed a restroom option at the Shipyard Marina. They did not want to sacrifice elegance by bringing in porta potties, but also couldn’t afford the permit process of getting a brick-and-mortar restroom put in. This is where restroom trailers came in as an easy solution.
Our restroom trailers are not only budget friendly, but also guarantee that design will not be sacrificed. An Affordable Solution with Restroom Trailers
After browsing the restroom trailers that we have to offer, the Hoboken Sailing Club decided that the 5 Station Calypso Series was the perfect fit for them. This 16 foot restroom trailer is equipped for moderate use with a 550 gallon waste take and 150 gallon fresh water tank. The exterior is cleanly designed and sturdy, built to take on the most uncomfortable of weather climates. Each suite, like on many of our restroom trailers, has safe aluminum steps and a handrail for guided access. Visitors will also find ample lighting for safe access no matter what time, day or night.
As visitors enter the suites, they’ll find a womens suite with three stalls and a mens suite with one stall and one urinal. Each stall is it’s own room with elegant wooden doors that give visitors a sense of true privacy, and walls are also provided for additional privacy at urinals. The entire portable restroom is equipped with non-slip flooring, flushable toilets, and a sink vanity with a shatterproof mirror.
The entire unit also features air conditioning and heat strips in order to maintain a comfortable interior temperature no matter what outside weather may be like. These strips can easily increase or decrease the temperature of the unit when necessary, ensuring that guests have a comfortable experience.
Overall, the 5 Station Calypso was an elegant solution for the sailing club, providing guests with a restroom option that matched the tone of the club itself. - Offsite Unit Management

WINTERIZING RESTROOM TRAILERS
Despite spring being around the corner, extreme weather conditions persist in many parts of the country. For those who experience extreme weather conditions, we know how hard it can get to maintain your restroom trailers. Maintenance issues are bound to arise: what if your water freezes? What if the hose gets clogged by ice? How do I keep my restroom guests comfortable during use?
These are all thoughts we’ve had when thinking about how to continue to improve our product. We want you to have the highest quality experience possible after your purchase. When it comes to cold weather, note these tips to ensure your restroom trailers stay functioning and keeps that high quality for long periods of time.
Protect Your Water Supply
- Wrap heat tape around a ¾” garden hose. Use duct tape to hold it in place, about every 12 inches.
- Put foam tube insulation around the hose and heat tape. Leave the plugs and power lights uncovered.
- Run duct tape down the insulation, leaving the connecting ends, plugs and power lights uncovered. If you cover them, you will not be able to connect the water or power. Leave test lights and power lights uncovered (for testing and to be sure the hose remains working).
Create A Box
- Place two 1500-watt electric heaters under the unit. Be sure you have sufficient power!
- Build a 2×2 or 2×4 wood frame to fit underneath each side of the unit. This is going to box the bottom of the outside of the unit.
- Fill any gaps with insulation
- Cut ½” plywood to fit frame for each side. Be sure to consider stairs when cutting your wood. Stairs should be out and in place before measuring.
- Measure and cut out a 6”x6” square to cover the drain access. Attach this with hinges so you can access the drain when needed. This will protect drain valve from freezing.
- Eliminate gaps and holes on the tongue side of the unit with R-13 (or greater) insulation.
- Staple insulation inside the wood box
- Cut a piece of insulation in half and lay it on the ground where the box will be placed. This eliminates gaps between the wood and the ground.
After Plywood is Attached
- Fill any small gaps on the top and bottom of the box with insulation
- Staple bubble wrap around the outside of the wood unit. This closes of gaps and keeps cold air out and heat in.
- Use electrical tape to cover plug connections that will remain outside.
For Units Not Used in Winter
Eliminate the use of power and water until the unit is ready to be used again.
- Drain water from all the lines.
- Add non-toxic RV “Pink Water System” antifreeze
- Unplug
