Helping in Houston with Portable Restrooms for Rent

Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport, TX last Friday night, shortly after being upgraded to a category four hurricane.  Several of PRT’s portable restrooms for rent were in the vicinity when the storm hit, as municipal authorities had arranged for our services ahead of time.  And we have continued to move additional units into the area as the disaster response effort has gotten underway.

Disaster Relief Resource

The strongest storm to hit Texas in more than 50 years, Harvey has already been called “probably the worst disaster the state's seen," by FEMA director Brock Long.  Two separate high-pressure systems to the north caused the storm to stall and spin in place near Houston, where some areas may receive more than 50 inches of rainfall.

Because of the unprecedented rain, large parts of the Houston metropolitan area have experienced historic flooding.  Heavy rainfall is expected to continue for the remainder of the week, with the Brazos River projected to crest 14 feet above flood stage.  Eight people are confirmed dead at the time of this writing.  Estimates for economic damage range from $10 billion up to $60 billion.

Major Bank Responds to Historic Flooding

While the fallout from the storm was felt immediately throughout southeast Texas – the response so far has been extraordinary.  Recovery and relief efforts are being spearheaded by agencies from local, state, and federal government – with assistance from several big businesses that call Houston home.

2 St Beach Series.pngOne major bank with extensive operations in Houston reached out to PRT to arrange portable restrooms for rent to assist with their response efforts.  Their downtown headquarters is protected by reservoir dams which are operated by the Harris County Flood Control District, but several of their branch locations have been effected by the flooding.

The bank needed to provide sanitary restroom accommodations for their response teams, as well as the first responders and relief workers who are operating in the area.  We quickly identified the appropriate resources from our inventory of portable restrooms for rent.  And we’re proud to say that we were able to deliver the required units within 24 hours of receiving the initial call.

Responding to Disasters with Portable Restrooms for Rent

Sanitary services don’t always make the headlines when natural disasters strike, but they are a key aspect of any disaster response effort.  Basic services like plumbing and electricity are frequently unavailable in the aftermath of a disaster.  While the availability of these services is down, however, the demand is often sky high due to a rapid influx of displaced victims and first responders.

PRT’s portable restrooms for rent are a perfect fit for this scenario, bridging the gap between the demand and supply for sanitary services.  In addition to portable restroom trailers, we offer a wide array of complementary units including shower trailers, decontamination trailers, mass casualty trailers, and even mobile laundry trailers.

Our fleet of disaster response trailers occupies a unique place in our inventory of portable restrooms for rent.  While we hope to never deploy these units, we also take great pride in our ability to pitch in and contribute when communities around the country come together to overcome disaster.  We’re proud to have our trailers in Houston this week, and we will be doing everything possible to assist with recovery efforts as the flood waters recede.
